Our Mission:

BONDS is a neighborhood association strengthening program; providing training a resource center, networking opportunities, and financial assistance (grants) in an effort to improve the overall quality of life throughout the city and county of Montgomery.

Our History:

BONDS began as a focused funding initiative of the Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) in 1996. The program was modeled after the Neighborhoods Energized to Win (NEW) fund of the Costal Community Foundation (previously the Trident Community Foundation) in Charleston, South Carolina. Early goals of the program were to provide neighborhood associations small grants, seed money, and training. BONDS has always believed that people have it within themselves to solve their own problems, thus, training was seen as a vehicle to develop the abilities of neighborhood leaders to promote positive change within their communities. Small grants provided a tangible way for neighborhood residents to see immediate benefits.

Funders in the initial years included: the Central Alabama Community Foundation, The Mott Foundation, The Mary Babcock Foundation, Alabama Power Foundation, The Alabama Gas Corporation, The Greil Foundation, The Montgomery Advertiser, and countless other grants and private donors.

Thirteen years later, BONDS is continuing to foster strong neighborhood associations by providing training that will encourage identifying and addressing strengths and needs. Small grants continue to make a big difference and support neighborhoods associations through beautification, youth programs, senior programs, and many others projects. Today, the program is funded by the City of Montgomery, the Montgomery County Commission, and private donors. BONDS is truly improving the quality of life in Montgomery one neighborhood at a time!
