An in-house resource center, with computers and internet access, provides neighborhood residents with a place to develop their newsletter or research important topics. Staff is available to answer questions and link residents with city services and other resources as needed. Pamphlets, handouts, and brochures on a variety of homeowner and neighborhood topics are also available. In the lending library, BONDS has the Girl’s Circle ® and Money Smart ® curriculums along with other books and videos.
The resource center staff is happy to copy agendas, minutes, flyers, newsletters, and other pertinent information for distribution within their neighborhoods.
The resource center is open Monday though Friday 8 am to 5 pm. Please call prior to coming to ensure someone is available to assist you.

BONDS offers a variety of training sessions to all neighborhood/ homeowner associations. Many associations have expressed their gratitude for the training sessions. Six to eight training sessions are required for associations that receive grants from BONDS, and they are strongly encouraged for others. Topics have included what type of trees to plant, the requirements to obtain a historical designation, and many more.
BONDS will introduce a Neighborhood Leadership Training (NLT) component to the training schedule beginning April 7, 2009. This Neighborhood Leadership Training will be in addition to the Neighborhood Resource Training sessions we currently offer. The presenters will be coming from Auburn University’s Leadership Development Program. It will be very exciting and offered at no cost in 2009. Beginning in 2010 there may be a minimal fee to attend the classes, to be paid by the association. The cost will be affordable to all, but make every attempt to attend in the first year when it’s free. Each session will be from 5:30-7:00pm, with a total of 7 sessions. The NLT is designed to equip communities by providing training to the leaders and potential leaders of neighborhood association and other community organizations. Please see the calendar below:
| April 7 | June 4 | ||
| April 30 | June 23 | ||
| May 12 | July 9, Final Project | ||
| May 28 | and or wrap up discussion | ||
The Neighborhood Resource Training will include information about resources in our area. The sessions will include presentations from the Master Gardeners, the Alabama Cooperative Extension Services, Animal Control Experts, financial planning, etc. We will offer 6 sessions and the times will vary between 12 noon and 5:30 pm. You will receive information about the sessions prior to their scheduled dates.
BONDS will offer 4-6 workshops based on concerns that have been expressed from the various neighborhoods or if someone feels they need to share valuable information to the neighborhood leaders. Workshops are typically held at 5:30 pm. Information will be provided as the schedule is available.
BONDS hosts an annual neighborhood conference, the purpose of which is to give the associations the opportunity to meet and talk with their elected officials, be recognized for a job well done via the Mayor’s Leadership Award, and also to hear from someone in the field or area of community development to reaffirm the importance of the work they are doing. Our annual conference is typically held in mid-September, but in 2009 we will host our conference in mid-October. We had a great turnout in 2008 and we are looking forward to an even larger turnout in 2009!
