ECCF: Scholarships
The Elmore County Community Foundation is an affiliated fund of the CACF

The Elmore County Community Foundation administers scholarship funds that are available to area residents for post-secondary educational expenses.  The criteria for awarding each scholarship vary and are listed below.  Please carefully read the description and requirements for each scholarship to see if you are eligible to apply.

Barrett Family Scholarship:

Established in memory of Terry, Ben, and Janet Barrett, scholarships are available to graduates attending Auburn University.  Preference is given to graduates of Wetumpka High School, but graduates of any Elmore County high school will be considered. Awards based on: (1) academic achievement; (2) financial need; and (3) community service.  Finalists may be interviewed.

Abe Brown Memorial Scholarship:

Given in memory of principal & coach Abe Brown,  this scholarship is available to graduates of Elmore County High School who have attended ECHS for at least three years.   Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or better. Criteria include: (1) academic performance; (2) potential to perform as an outstanding student; (3) school and community activities that demonstrate achievement and leadership and (4) financial need.

O. M. Bratton / Wetumpka High School Class of ‘61 Scholarship:

Honoring the late O. M. Bratton, former principal of Wetumpka High School, the scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Wetumpka High School.  The award is based on leadership and character demonstrated by the support of fellow students and faculty, school activities, and financial need.  The scholarship is available for students attending any two or four year college or any technical, trade or vocational school.

“T” Mollie Cook Scholarship:

This fund was established to benefit students graduating from Elmore County high schools that are pursuing degrees in architecture, fine arts, or drafting.  A $500 scholarship for post-secondary expenses will be awarded based on academic accomplishment, need, community leadership, and a portfolio review. 

Herbert M. Christian Scholarship:

Established in 1997 in memory of Mr. Christian, the scholarship is available to graduates of any Elmore County high school.  Criteria include academic accomplishment and financial need.  Special consideration is given to applicants having a physical handicap.  Minimum GPA of 2.5 

Fuller Family Scholarship:

For students from Elmore County High School with a minimum ACT of 20.
Awards are based on academic ability and financial need. 

Olive Speer Harper Scholarship:

Available to graduates of Wetumpka High School, this renewable scholarship is awarded based on academic performance, ability, and financial need.

Hohenberg Scholarship:

For graduates of Wetumpka High School. Award criteria includes: (1) scholarship and deportment; (2) character; and (3) financial need.

Ramona P. Jordan Memorial Scholarship:

Established in memory of a former teacher at Elmore County High School, eligible students must be graduates of Elmore County High School with a minimum grade point average of 3.5.  Awards are based on academic ability and need.

John Martin Thornton Memorial Scholarship:

Awards are based 75% on academic accomplishment and 25% on financial need.  The number of scholarships and amounts awarded each year will vary depending on available funds. Students who receive a scholarship for their freshmen year of college may annually reapply for a scholarship award for up to three additional years. Availability and amounts of additional scholarships for other than freshman year are contingent on student’s satisfactory academic performance, financial need and availability of scholarship funds.

Tommy C. Turner Memorial Scholarship:

This fund has been established to benefit graduates of any Elmore County high school who attend a school that is part of the University of Alabama system (i.e., University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama in Huntsville, or University of Alabama at Birmingham).  Scholarships may be renewed annually.  Criteria considered in making the awards are:  (1) need and (2) academic performance and ability.
