What to Bring

Bridge Builders® Leadership Conference Instructions

Pack your bag! Please pack the following items to bring to the Leadership Conference:

  • Shorts or pants appropriate for outdoors Alabama July heat for six days. (All shorts must provide full coverage.)
  • Two t-shirts will be provided for the student to wear during daily activities. (They are washed each night.)
  • Shirts and shorts or pants for the evening activities (including outdoor games and indoor games) for six nights. (Jeans/t-shirts are best.)
  • A casual outfit to wear to the Friday night dance. (Don’t bring prom gear; it’s just us Bridge Builders.)
  • Any props, music, equipment you need to participate in the Talent Show. (Don’t go overboard. Magicians, leave your rabbits at home.)
  • Bedding and pillow of your liking for a twin-sized bed. (Sleeping bags work great!)
  • At least two pairs of comfortable, well-worn tennis, hiking, basketball, etc. type shoes. Sandals are not recommended for daily activities but can be worn for evening activities. The daily activities are outdoors and active. It rains from time to time and we still go outdoors, so don’t bring your new nifty shoes. Bring the tried and true ones.
  • One pair of shower shoes is always good as we have communal dorm-style bathrooms.
Toiletry items, including towels that you use each day for your personal needs.
  • Medications in their original containers with full instructions and a note from the doctor/parent/guardian. All prescriptions medications will be kept by the team facilitators and administered according to instructions. Other medications such as pain relievers may be kept by the student. Staff may not administer nonprescription medications.
  • Sunscreen for those really sunny days.
  • Change for the dorm soda machine if you wish. (Three meals and evening snacks are provided, so this is not a necessity.)
  • One self-addressed, stamped envelope

ITEMS TO LEAVE AT HOME. (If these items are found or are reported to be in your possession, immediate dismissal from Bridge Builders may occur. We are serious about leaving these items AT HOME.) Staff will not be responsible for any confiscated items that are taken while you are at camp.

  • Telephones
  • Cell phones
  • Radios/jam boxes
  • Pagers
  • Walkman/discman/tv-man
  • Televisions
  • I-Pods/ MP3 Players/ Alarm Clocks
  • "Tele"-anything items must stay home. We will provide music each night. We will wake you each morning in time to bathe and get to breakfast. You will be so busy and tired you won’t need nor want your technology items. The time in your dorm is to be spent with your roommate and your sleeping self. Trust us, over 2000 high school students just like you have survived the experience and later understand the purpose!
  • Any clothing item that others may find offensive.
  • Anything illegal and anything else you think would be inappropriate for a leadership conference.
