Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz gave the official  “countdown” to start Southeast Alabama Community Foundation’s Inaugural Half-Marathon on Saturday, February 18. More than 200 runners braved the rain to participate in the race. The event raised more than $20,000 for SACF’s 2012 Community Trust grants given to organizations that provide services to Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties.

Northview High School’s Sean Kent won Overall Male with a time of 1:21:02. “This is the first half-marathon I’ve ran and it felt amazing to win! The first time I raced a 10k and 15k, I won those as well.” said Sean. Ashley Maddox came in at 1:42:05 to win Overall Female. “I was not expecting to win, but this is great!” said Ashley.

Runners and race spectators danced to the music of DJ Sizzle in the field of Flowers Hospital (the half-marathon’s lead sponsor) and enjoyed jambalaya provided by T.G.I. Friday’s (Dothan). The race was managed by Montgomery Multisport. A special thank you goes to the SACF advisory committee and volunteers for making our first time a huge success!
